    Abstract [en]

    Migrating to a country with a very different culture and society from the home country can be a very big challenge. However, trying to find one's identity and role in the new society can be considered important for the individual's well-being. It is important to see how different factors can affect the integration process for migrants in order to understand the difficulties they may face when it comes to identity creation in the new country. Because migration is a global and complex phenomenon and the reasons behind migration are many and varied. Migrants can become vulnerable at different stages of their journey. Some of them endures hardships that can threaten their lives and affect their physical and mental well-being regardless of the reason for leaving their home country. The purpose of this qualitative interview study was to investigate how young adult migrant women from the Middle East experience bi-cultural identity creation. With a social psychological approach, this was studied through theories of social identity theory, social influence, conformity, integration theory and bi-cultural identity theory. Five semi-structured interviews with migrant women from the Middle East were conducted. The results show that the migrant women often experience conflicts and difficulties in finding a balance in where they see themselves as belonging, which creates difficult feelings and an identity crisis. Some respondents accept and internalize this conflict. The values that followed from the home culture are important for their identity and that it is the values that set the tone during their bi-cultural identity creation.

    Abstract [en]

    Anorexia is a global issue but occurs mainly in the Western world. Anorexia nervosa is a complex disease caused by biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors which often interacts with each other. The purpose of this phenomenological study is to gain a greater understanding of how recovered women created meaning in their illness and if there are mutual factors in their life-stories. We have especially focused on family patterns and the communication within the family. We have based our study on symbolic interactionism as our theoretical perspective. The study is of a qualitative nature and we used semi structured interviews which later were interpreted from a hermeneutic phenomenological approach. In our result we could see that creating meaning was central throughout the disease and was expressed in different ways by our respondents. Ten themes appeared and the most vital findings were that anorexia was an active action and that it is an expression for self-hatred and low self-esteem. We could also see that lack of expression regarding emotions within the families and not being emotionally recognized by their parents were crucial factors. The most important result was the respondents own perception of anorexia as a symbolizing action and the content of the disease is about so much more than weight and looks.

    Abstract [en]

    Attitudes and prejudice about ethnicity is a phenomenon that occurs in many different contexts. When working with people, attitudes about ethnicity is essential for how the workplace is experienced, both for the employees and clients. The work-life in Sweden consists of employees with different backgrounds and ethnicities. Norms about ethnicity create obstacles to achieve equality and the risk of ethnic discrimination enhances. The issue can be complex and requires employees to critically examine themselves and their colleagues. Experiences of attitudes depends on several individual factors, therefore they may differ in different workplaces. The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate attitudes about ethnicity among Social Services' employees and how the attitudes affect the work with clients. With a social psychological approach, this study was conducted based on theories of social cognition theory, attitudes, social attribution theory and ethnicity, we and them-thinking & indirect discrimination. The essay contains ten semi-structured interviews with social workers in three different municipalities. The results show that it exists negative attitudes about ethnicity in the social services, both between employees and clients. How attitudes appear in the work is affected by several different factors such as experience, awareness of negative attitudes and open dialogues between employees. Whilst working with clients, the influence of attitudes has a basis in the employees´ level of understanding, treatment and ability to maintain the professional role.

    Abstract [en]

    Individuals who have come to Sweden as unaccompanied refugee minors meet different difficulties. In previous research, the main focal points have been the unaccompanied minors' previous experiences of violence and war, and the importance of social support. The aims of this study were firstly to gain a greater understanding regarding stress and stress management among unaccompanied refugee minors, and secondly, to look at the importance of social relationships regarding stress management. This qualitative study is based upon ten semi-structured interviews. Ten young adults gave their subjective narrative. The interviewees had their roots in Afghanistan. They all came to Sweden as unaccompanied refugee minors. The interview was analyzed based on Bronfenbrenner´s Ecological systems theory and Lazarus stress theory, using thematic analysis. The results drawn were that unaccompanied refugee minors experience stress because of a) expressed and perceived demands from the family, b) for the family's situation in the home country, c) the oral interaction with ethnical Swedes, d) be able to find work, and e) not recognizing the physical environment. The result regarding stress management shows that social relations, help from professional contacts, and their own personality were of importance for the study participants. Furthermore, the results show that being able to work and to educate themselves were important stress management strategies. Friends from the homeland and the mother tongue were sources of comfort for the participants.

    Abstract [en]

    Aim

    The purpose of this study is to research and map Swedish secondary school students’ taste for sports (practice belonging) based on Lars-Magnus Engström’s practice division. The purpose is also to explore how gender, participation in organized sports and socioeconomic capital might be related to practice belonging. The study will also explore what type of learning the different practices contributes to. – How is the practice belonging among Swedish secondary school students? – Is there a relationship between practice belonging and learning?

    Method

    A survey was conducted on 270 Swedish secondary school students. The students went to three different schools, all located in the Stockholm suburbs. The results were analyzed in SPSS and significance levels were tried through Pearson’s Chi-Square test. The study’s theoretical base consisted of Bourdieu’s concept of habitus, Vygotsky’s sociocultural learning theory as well as Hirdman’s and Fagrell’s rendering of the gender system. 

    Results

    Challenge, physical training as well as competition and ranking were practices who most felt a strong belonging to. Skill training was a practice that boys to a larger extent than girls belonged to and movement to music was a practice that girls in a larger extent than boys belonged to. The students who had a higher grade in PE felt a strong practice belonging to all practices but movement to music as well as interaction with animals. There were no significant results between economic capital and practice belonging. Those with a high or semi-high educational capital felt a strong practice belonging for all practices but movement to music, interaction with animals and competition and ranking. The students who were participating in organized sports felt a stronger belonging to all performance practices as well as physical training and skill training than those who weren’t participating in organized sports. The results in the comparison between practice belonging and learning showed that those with strong practice belonging to a greater extent agreed with the assertions connected to the practice’s learning.

    Conclusions

    There seems to be differences in practice belonging depending on which gender one belongs to. One’s practice belonging can also differ depending on educational capital and participation in organized sports. It seems to be some practices that to a greater extent lead to a higher grade in PE. The results also indicate that there is learning within each practice.

    Vi har valt att utifrån ett socialpsykologiskt perspektiv studera problematiken inom tränarrollen i att balansera ett lags välmående samtidigt som man strävar efter att nå resultat. Syftet med vår studie är att få en ökad förståelse för vad som kan vara bra att tänka på som tränare för att i styrning kunna kombinera fokus på resultat och välbefinnande på ett optimalt sätt. Vi har genomfört en kvalitativ studie där vi har genomfört observationer och kvalitativa intervjuer för att samla in vårt material. Vi har arbetat induktivt utifrån vår empiri och har använt oss av teorier kring socialisationsprocesser, interaktionsritualer, intersubjektivitet och idrottens fenomenologiska struktur för att få en förståelse och skapa ett sammanhang för vår data. Vi har även använt oss av tidigare forskning kring idrottsledarens sociala roll, ledarskap & styrning och elitcoachers syn på sig själva för att få en ökad förståelse och för att läsarna ska få en bredare bild kring vår frågeställning. För att kunna nå och sträva efter resultat och samtidigt ha en grupp som mår bra krävs en tydlig kommunikation från ledare och organisation. För att balansera upp välmående och samtidigt sträva efter resultat krävs det en förståelse hos spelarna över de besluts som tas.

    Abstract [en]

    This study investigates the feasibility of enhancing community engagement through gamification, using a prototype third-person 3D adventure game called Harmoni. The research targets international students in Gotland, Sweden, aiming to reduce cultural barriers and promote community involvement. By integrating game elements such as altruistic missions, language learning, and historical exploration, the prototype seeks to motivate real-life participation in community activities. Data collected from pre- and post-surveys and follow-up interviews with a small sample size (n=10) suggest that gamification can positively impact community involvement. Despite the limitations of sample size, the findings indicate that thoughtfully designed gamified experiences can foster a sense of belonging and encourage active participation in community life. The study underscores the potential of gamification in educational and social contexts, offering insights for future applications and improvements in game-based community engagement strategies.

    Studien ämnar undersöka medarbetarnas upplevelser av hur kommunikation och konflikthanteringen av arbetsrelaterade konflikter sköts på den egna avdelningen. Detta görs genom kvalitativa semi-strukturerade intervjuer. Den valda teoretiska utgångspunkten omfattar Thomas Jordans (2019) teorier om Samarbetskultur samt Tre konflikt ansatser som tillämpas på tre konfliktnivåer om: individnivå, relationsnivå och systemnivå. 

    Resultatet visar på brister i konflikhanteringsstrategier som respektive chef och medarbetare utgår ifrån i sin problemlösning. Kommunikationsstörningar förekommer vilket påverkar arbetet jämte relationer och försvårar samarbete och återkoppling. Resultatet har vidare visat konflikter på samtliga nivåer om individ, relation och systemnivå. Detta kan indikera på ett behov av förändringsarbete i bland annat organisationsstrukturen på exempelvis arbetskultur, arbetsorganisation och kommunikationsmönster.

    De-racialization research suggests that depicting members of ethnic minority groups as gay leads to less stereotypic perceptions oftheir ethnic group. However, whether the consequences of de-racialization translate into real-world behavior is unclear. In a large “lost letter” field experiment (N = 6,654) where an email was ostensibly sent to the wrong recipient by mistake, we investigate whether the relative impact of signaling gayness (vs. heterosexuality) differs for Arab (minority) versus Swedish (majority) senders. The results show clear evidence of ethnic discrimination where Arab (minority) senders receive fewer replies (prosocial response) than Swedish (majority) senders. However, there is no evidence indicating that Arab senders would receive a lower penalty for revealing gayness. Implications for multiple categorization research are discussed.

    Forskning har påvisat orsaker till att en individ kan hamna i kriminalitet men inte vilka huvudorsakerna är, därför valde författarna att undersöka detta närmare. Syftet med denna studie var att belysa tidigare kriminellas perspektiv på vad som påverkat dem under deras ungdom vilket resulterat i ett kriminellt beteende. Författarna intervjuade 15 deltagare i syfte att analysera deras livsberättelser och vilka faktorer som lett dem in i kriminalitet. Intervjudeltagarna var 10 män och fem kvinnor mellan 20–50 år som suttit i fängelse minst tre år. Studien utgick narrativ analys med tematiska frågor. Samtliga förklarade att de blivit kriminella på grund av: (1) bristen på tillhörighet, (2) orättvis behandling i skolan, (3) familjeförhållanden, (4) kriminella i familjen och umgängeskretsen samt (5) bristen på sysselsättning och missbruk. Denna studie visar att det sällan finns en ensam nämnare till varför en individ hamnar i kriminalitet, utan att kriminalitet som fenomen är mycket komplext.

    When a new transport service is introduced, people have to learn and familiarize themselves with the new service before they decide to adopt it. These processes are developed over time, thus produce dynamics in individuals’ behavioural responses towards the service. This affects the demand of the new service, thus affect revenues. Available studies have examined the factors influencing these responses from microeconomic perspectives. The influence of the theory-based subjective factors has not been examined empirically. Understanding these would assist transport and urban planners to design a better marketing strategy to increase the market share of the new service. A change in seasons affect individuals’ activity-travel decisions, thus produce dynamics in activitytravel patterns in different seasons. Individuals’ constraints, in a form of mandatory activities (working/studying), are influencing individuals’ decisions to participate in day-to-day nonmandatory activities (leisure and routine activities). The interdependency between travel demand, time allocation and mode choice that considers interactions between mandatory and non-mandatory activities, in different seasons is less explored. Understanding these would assist transport planners and operators to manage travel demand strategies across different seasons of the year and provide better transportation systems for all individuals. This thesis includes five papers. Paper I explores individuals’ characteristics of the quick-response and the adopters of the new public transport (PT) service and examines the temporal effects. Paper II investigates the subjective factors influencing a quick-response to the new PT service by proposing a modified attitude-behaviour framework. Paper III and IV analyse the effects of seasonal variations and individuals’ constraints on their day-to-day activity-travel decisions and patterns. Paper V analyses the attrition and fatigue in the two-week travel diary panel survey instrument.

    Subjective Factors Influencing Individual's Response to a New Public Transport ServiceManuscript (preprint) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The timing and nature of people’s responses can be expected to vary when a new element enter their environment. For example, when an individual is provided with a new or modified transport service. This time-scale of behavioural responses will affect the patronage of, and short- and long-term demands on the new service over time. Understanding the underlying factors that influence an individual’s response over time to a new or modified transport service would enable us to identify trigger factors that make the new service attractive from an individual’s point of view. Chatterjee (2001) and Douglas (2003) argued that motives other than instrumental factors related to public transport use, such as attitudes, awareness, travel habits and learning processes, can influence individual responses over time to changes in the travel environment. Unfortunately, despite their importance, there have been few studies that examined this argument empirically. To address this research gap, this paper aims to investigate the influences of subjective factors on individuals’ responses to the introduction of a modified public transport (PT) service over time by proposing and testing an alternative model that modifies the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) model framework. This paper also aims to investigate the behavioural change in terms of attitudes and perceptions on individuals’ resources and constraints in using a modified PT service over time after its introduction. The case study involves the new extension of a tram line connecting the suburbs of Alvik and Solna Centrum in Stockholm, Sweden. Four waves of a panel survey were conducted with 96 individuals who lived along the new service, from just before the new service was introduced and until seven months after its introduction. A structural equation modelling technique was used to estimate the relationships between behavioural constructs and panel data, then incorporate them into a discrete choice model. The results show that intention influences individual’s quick-response choice. The panel analysis shows that past behaviour in using the new service influenced current behaviour, and that perceived walking distance in using the service consistently influenced the frequency of using the new service over time.

    The purpose of the present project has been to carry out international studies on meaning-making coping among people who have been affected by cancer in a number of societies and, thereby, to try to understand the influence of culture on use of these coping methods. Five countries—Sweden, South Korea, China, Japan, and Turkey—are included in the project. Qualitative semistructured interviews have been conducted with persons with a cancer diagnosis. The research group in each country has used, as a foundation, the interview questions developed for the Swedish study. These questions were, however, modified to better suite the sociocultural context of each participating country. The results presented here concern only Turkey and are restricted to religious coping methods. The study consists of 25 cancer patients (18 females and 7 males) between 20 and 71 years of age. The results of the study in Turkey indicated that the RCOPE (Religious Coping) methods are highly relevant for the interviewees. A sociological analysis of the study made from a cultural perspective showed clearly the importance of the idea of being tolerant (Sabr) for patients when coping with the psychological problems brought about by cancer. The study made it clear that culture plays an essential role in the choice of coping methods.

    Abstract [en]

    In the media in the recent years, a negative picture of young Somali-Swedes has emerged, among other things linked to gang crime. It also affects the young Somali-Swedes who have not gone astray. As a contrast to those who ended up in crime, unemployment and exclusion, Somali-Swedish university students are highlighted in this study. The aim was to create an understanding of their identity formation and experience of meaningfulness and how it affects their well-being. The study was based on a social psychological perspective and has been analyzed with the help of the theories Sense of Coherence (SOC) and Social Identity Theory (SIT) as well as the concepts of ethnicity, in-betweenness and dual cultural belonging. The method was qualitative and qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten respondents. The respondents were university students of Somali-Swedish origin aged 21-24. The results showed that ethnicity, religious affiliation, family, friends and participation in civic society were important in the formation of identity. Religion, family and sense of purpose were described as important elements in creating meaning. In addition, it was common that adversity and negative treatment were turned into a source of motivation. The factors of success for well-being that were found were community, social support, faith, purposefulness and turning adversity into motivation.

    Abstract [en]

    Violence in close relationships is a current and serious problem that affects both the victim and society negatively. This type of violence is often perpetrated by men against women. The number of calls to Sweden's women shelters has increased and there is also a supposed high number of women that doesn’t report their situation. The violence can be of both psychological and physical nature. Living in a destructive relationship can have drastic consequences for the victim's psychological well-being. Previous research shows that battered women find it difficult to get out of their relationship. This is a very important topic to study for these very reasons. A qualitative research method was conducted in this study. 10 women who have lived in a destructive relationship were interviewed. The result was analyzed with a thematic analysis. The purpose of the study was to investigate battered women’s experiences, in regards to how their self-image and self-esteem have changed. Theories regarding power and social support have also been used in order to analyze their social context. The results showed that the women experienced a negative self-image and self-esteem during and after the relationship. The power relationship was asymmetric, which also affected their self-image and self-esteem. Social support was perceived as important for rebuilding their self-image and self-esteem.

    Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka kvinnlig säkerhetspersonals upplevelser av att arbeta på en mansdominerad arbetsplats och det har sin grund i ett intresse för jämställdhet och genus. Intresseområdet kvinnlig säkerhetspersonal är relevant med anledning att det är en mansdominerad bransch som expanderar och som rekryterar allt fler kvinnor. Studien bidrar till forskningen om genus genom att presentera ett resultat utifrån upplevelsen av att vara kvinna och arbeta inom säkerhetsbranschen samt de skilda förväntningar som finns på dem. Forskningsansatsen som har tillämpats i studien är Grundad Teori. Datainsamlingen har skett utifrån ett teoretiskt urval och det inkluderade sex individuella intervjuer, en parintervju samt en granskning av sex podcastavsnitt och fyra avsnitt av TV-serien Tunnelbanan. Studien har genererat en Grundad Teori som visar att huvudangelägenheten för kvinnlig säkerhetspersonal är att det finns icke-normativa förväntningar på dem. Huvudangelägenheten hanteras genom kärnkategorin som är att kvinnlig säkerhetspersonal förväntas ha ett pedagogiskt förhållningssätt. Den grundade teorin som studien presenterar utgörs av sex övriga kategorier som förhåller sig till och förklarar kärnkategorin. Dessa kategorier är trygghetsingivande, fysisk kapabilitet, underordnad, normer för arbetsplacering, säkerhetspersonalens kön påverkar interaktionen och (o)jämlikhetens historik. Resultatet analyseras utifrån Hirdmans teori om genussystemet, Goffmans dramaturgiska perspektiv samt Hochschilds teori om emotionellt arbete.

    Abstract [en]

    Over a short period of time, crime in Sweden has increased and become a serious and publicized social problem. It is a complex process to leave a criminal environment that can often involve a number of different challenges. Cohesion and social ties formed in criminal environments can delay the process of leaving due to a strong identification with the group. Support and efforts by society are important for an individual to be able to change his identity as a criminal. The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate subjective experiences of how stigmatization, labeling processes and support efforts affected the exit process in the development to a non-criminal identity. The starting point for studies was a social psychological approach that was studied through theories of social identity, stigmatization, labeling and exit process. Ten respondents from the dropout activity Criminal Revenge in Society (KRIS) participated in studies and interviews using semi-structured interviews. The results showed that KRIS's support efforts have a positive impact on the development of a non-criminal identity by contributing to a feeling of support and acceptance. The respondents who had not made a geographical separation experienced labeling and stigma in a larger sense. Stamping processes and stigmatization were found to have a negative impact on the development to a non-criminal identity in the exit process. The membership of KRIS has functioned as a protected environment from labeling and stigmatization that facilitates identity formation in the exit process.

    Denna studie fokuserar på hur de professionella, som har erfarenhet av att jobba med ensamkommande unga vuxna som har haft tillfälligt uppehållstillstånd enligt gymnasielagen, uppfattar gymnasielagens betydelse och konsekvenser för de ensamkommande unga vuxnas integration, känsla av trygghet samt strategier för att hantera gymnasielagens krav. Studien är baserad på semistrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer med tio professionella. De transkriberade intervjuerna analyserades med hjälp av en riktad kvalitativ innehållsanalys utifrån tidigare forskning och Anthony Giddens teori om ontologisk trygghet. Resultaten från innehållsanalysen visar att de professionella anser att de ensamkommande unga vuxnas integration försvårades under tiden de har omfattats av gymnasielagen då de bland annat har upplevt maktlöshet och kontrollförlust som en konsekvens av en otydlig och komplex lag, en osäker asylprocess, strukturella begräsningar samt en dålig interaktion med myndigheter på grund av låg tillit. Dessutom visar studiens resultat, utifrån de professionellas berättelser, att de ensamkommande unga vuxnas tid under gymnasielagen har präglats av osäkerhet, oförutsägbarhet och en ständig stress, något som har lett till känslor av skam och ångest. Vidare framkom det att de ensamkommande unga vuxna har använt sig av olika strategier för att hantera gymnasielagens krav som till exempel kollektivitet och att söka stöd från de professionella. De huvudsakliga slutsatserna, utifrån de professionellas beskrivningar, är att de ensamkommande unga vuxnas integration och trygghet försämrades av gymnasielagen, men att de ensamkommande unga vuxna, trots de svåra omständigheterna, använde olika strategier för att kunna hantera gymnasielagens stress- och ångestfyllda situationer.

    After serving a prison sentence, an individual may experience social and economic exclusion, which further increases the risk of recidivism. Although it is expected that such individuals should be able to support themselves after serving a prison sentence, the study highlights the fact that they may encounter several obstacles in their attempt to obtain legal employment. The research questions concerned the sources of information that contribute to the individual's perceived self-efficacy. The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of how an individual’s perceived self-efficacy affects her/his opportunities to obtain legal employment after serving a prison sentence for drug offenses. A social psychological perspective was chosen, which was studied with the help of Albert Bandura's theory. This qualitative study is based on semi-structured interviews with eight individuals who served prison sentences for drug offenses and managed to find legal employment afterwards. The collected empirical data were processed by means of thematic analysis. The results showed that perceived self-efficacy had both a positive and a negative effect on the possibility of obtaining legal employment after serving a prison sentence. All respondents stated that the motivation derived from family, acquaintance or partner support was the key to a successful transition. Society's anti-support/ in the form of criminal record as well as lack of work experience and a driving license reduced the possibility of obtaining legal employment

    This study examines how personality and general political stance correlate with political tolerance in a Swedish context. The forms of tolerance investigated were general political tolerance as well as directed political tolerance towards both the right and left in its more extreme form. The study also examines the relationship between personality and a belief in silence others. The study was based on an internet-based survey with 273 respondents in the final sample. The results showed that personality had an impact on how we behave towards others expressively, where levels of extraversion and neuroticism correlated with the belief in silence others, and where extraversion was also a predictor. The study's results also show that the personality trait openness predicted directed political tolerance towards the left and that political stance could predict tolerance towards the right. For general political tolerance, neuroticism from the Big Five and honesty from HEXACO were significant predictors. This differs partly from previous research.

    Abstract [en]

    The fact that the penis haven’t had a central role in the social psychological field in aspect to men’s identity, although the male body has gotten more attention in media and the society as a whole, is the starting point for this study. We wanted to find out how Swedish males in the age of 20-30 years constructed their identities from their bodies and penises. The eight interviews that were conducted in a semi-structural way were analyzed by using parts of three different discursive analysis approaches, and also in aspect to Goffmans dramaturgical perspective and his theory about stigma, as well as Butlers performative idea about gender and Connells theory concerning the hegemonic masculinity. The analysis showed that the men constructed their identities in regards to what they thought was the prevailing ideals in society regarding the male body. All of the men talked about the importance of being fit, a bodily condition they strived to gain. The men used different discursive resources in their talk about the body and in their talk about the penis. Function was the main theme when it came to the penis and what it was used for, and it was in very few social interactions that the penis had a central role in the construction of the men’s identity.

    Denna studie undersöker den digitala sociala rörelsen som uppstod ur efterdyningarna av den så kallade GameStop-sagan på aktiemarknaden. Spelåterförsäljaren GameStop erhöll en grupp hängivna anhängare på det sociala mediet Reddit. Över tid utvecklades gruppen till en social rörelse som i sin tur utvecklade en känsla av kärlek för GameStop-varumärket. Rörelsen gör anspråk på traditionella finansinstitut och Wall Street för en rättvisare aktiemarknad. Studien ämnar analysera de faktorer som bidragit till att utveckla kärleken för varumärket, som i denna studie benämns Brand love. Genom att utgå från två teoretiska ramverk; Social rörelseteori samt Kollektiv handlingsteori utforskar studien de taktiker och beslut som legat bakom rörelsens handlingar. Med en kvalitativ innehållsanalys uppnår uppsatsen en narrativ analys som illustrerar centrala aspekter ur datainsamlingen från Reddit. Gemenskapen utvecklades från att vara en grupp av oorganiserade individer till en stark social rörelse. Deras repertoarer inkluderade att hålla fast vid GameStop-aktier och använda olika plattformar för att sprida information. Det framkom att GameStop-gemenskapen använde Reddit för att organisera sig, diskutera anspråk och strategier samt stärka sin kollektiva identitet. Språkbruket förhöll sig vara nedvärderande samt stötande och användes inte endast som en form av kommunikation utan även för att stärka tillhörighet. Analysen pekar på att kollektiv identitet och starka relationer var viktiga element för rörelsens utveckling av brand love. Denna forskning ger inblick i dynamiken bakom digitala gemenskaper, aktivism och hur det kan leda till varumärkesrelationer.

    Mitt syfte var att ta reda på hur gymnasieelever med specialundervisning upplever sinskolsituation, vilka för och nackdelar den för med sig, om de blir behandlade annorlundaav omgivningen på grund av deras skolform och om så är fallet hur de hanterar det. Jaganvände mig av kvalitativa intervjuer för att få min empiri. Intervjuerna visade attfördelarna med specialundervisning är extrahjälpen, någon som lyssnar och bryr sig,individualiteten och en lugn miljö att studera i. Nackdelarna med specialundervisningsom gick att utläsa från intervjuerna är en känsla av att inte vara som de andra eleverna,att bli behandlad i den “vanliga” klassen utifrån att man inte kan och bör därför inteförsöka, avundsjuka kring att de med specialundervisning får bra hjälp. Speciallärarnasbesök hos deras elever när de är i den “vanliga” klassen verkar upplevas som positiv avklassen då de alla får extrahjälp. Hur eleverna hanterar nackdelarna är att inte vilja gå tillden “vanliga” klassen och att undvika den andra skolbyggnaden, en önskan attspecialundervisning vore tillgängligt för mer elever. Det går inte att bortse från atteleverna är bortförda från “vanliga” klassen till specialundervisning när de är i behov avdet. Men eleverna verkar inte ha större invändningar till att komma bort från den“vanliga” klassen då fördelarna verkar vara fler än nackdelarna. Men frågan är hur svårtdet kan vara att ta in specialundervisningens förhållningssätt i den “vanliga” klassen såatt det blir en inkluderande undervisning, så att saknaden av det sociala som är viktigtför identiteten och utbildningshandikapp som leder till stigma kan undvikas.

    Ätstörningar är ett problem i dagens samhälle då statistik visar att ungefär 190 000 svenskar är drabbade av ätstörningar. Utifrån frågeställningarna; Hur påverkar omgivningen insjuknandet i ätstörningar och sjukdomsförloppet? och; Hur hanterar individen sina känslor under sjukdomstiden? avhandlar denna uppsats uppkomsten av ätstörningar med fokus på om det finns specifika vändpunkter i individers liv vilka bidrar till insjuknandet. Studiens empiriska material grundar sig i en kvalitativ studie med fenomenologi som ansats, materialet är baserat på tio ostrukturerade intervjuer med individer som tidigare varit drabbade av ätstörningar. Studien påvisar att det finns olika vändpunkter som bidrar till insjuknande i ätstörningar där otrygghet visade sig vara den starkaste i relation med sociokulturella faktorer. Ytterligare resultat visar att olika vändpunkter inte påverkar vilken form av ätstörning man drabbas av utan att grunden för insjuknad i olika typer av ätstörningar är densamma. Studien uppmärksammar även vikten att redan i den primära socialisationen lära sig känslohantering för att senare i livet kunna urskilja, behärska och beskriva de känslor som uppkommer. Om man inte lärt sig uttrycka känslor i tidig ålder finns en ökad risk för att insjukna i ätstörning, genom att man istället tar till andra strategier för att hantera känslorna. Exempel på detta är att istället för att känslohantera tar man till strategier som kroppslig kontroll. Studiens konklusion är att sociokulturella faktorerna är essentiella vid insjuknandet i ätstörning.

    This study examinates how child interviews are implemented in financial assistance in Norrköping municipality. In 2015, the management within Financial Assistance in the Municipality of Norrköping formed a group of social workers secretaries called the "Children's Group" to investigate the possibility of conducting child interviews within Financial Assistance. The child group is an assignment from the management in Financial Assistance, where it includes social workers who can contribute to focusing on the children within Financial assistance, in order to strengthen the child's perspective, exist as a consultant's support in matters concerning children for other social secretaries and implement child interviews. During an annual work with child interviews, the children's group has written a preliminary study. The child group has written a preliminary study during one year's work about the possibility to perform child interviews in financial assistance. The preliminary study shows that in financial assistance there is potential and that there are benefits in performing child interviews. The Children's Group in Financial Assistance in the Municipality of Norrköping today consists of five social workers who are working on implementing child interviews. The study is of a qualitative approach and has been used semi-structured interviews with five informants who work within Financial Assistance and who work with the Children's Mission. The study uses organizational theory and system theory to analyze how the child group relates to the child mission and the goals of the activity. Previous research is also used to understand how the children whose parents are involved in financial assistance affects by their parents' finances situation. The purpose of the study is to investigate how Norrköping municipality is working to implement child interviews within financial assistance and how the employees who are part of the child group experience the implementation process. The purpose is also to highlight opportunities and difficulties with the implementation. The study uses theories to offer an understanding of how the child group relates to the mission and the goals of financial assistance. Previous research is also used to highlight children whose parents are involved in financial assistance in order to gain an understanding of how these children are affected by their parents' finances. The study's results showed that the purpose of child interviews within financial assistance is to offer the children the opportunity to be noticed and make their voice heard. The purpose is also to follow the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Social Services Act, who contain regulations about the child's best interests. Using child interviews in financial assistance can help social workers to make more overall assessments where different perspectives are taken into account in their work. The study shows that the child group that works with the implementation of child interviews needs more time and resources in the form of the education in order for the implementation to continue and thus for the child group's commitment to remain. It appears that the implementation of child interviews has begun to apply as of May 1, 2019, but that the work has not been fully possible due to the absence of a compliance form 4 that was planned to be given out to the child’s legal guardians to ask whether their child can be interviewed or not. The results of the study show that the work with the implementation of child interviews can be influenced by decisions that must be made by the management, staff turnover, new employees that are part of the group who need to get introduced and practice child interviews, cancellations, loss and lack of resources in form of time and economy. These are some of the factors that need to be considered when implementing child interviews.

    Att konsumenters beteende förändrats genom den tekniska utvecklingen är inget nytt. Idag ställs höga krav på tillgänglighet och dygnet-runt-service vilket leder till att många branscher i Sverige måste anpassa sig. En av de stora investerarna inom IT är bankerna och ett direkt resultat av denna satsning är att det idag läggs ned allt fler lokalkontor till förmån för centraliserade IT-lösningar, såsom kundcenterenheter. Frågan är hur personalen på befintliga lokalkontor och kundcenter upplever denna utveckling. I denna studie undersöks relationen mellan Nordeas lokalkontor och kundcenter, om det finns motstånd till den pågående förändringen och om makt- och statusförhållanden mellan enheterna förändrats. Då kundcenteryrket är starkt förknippat med låg status torde detta påverka hur man från lokalkontoren ser på dessa centraliserade enheter som främst jobbar genom telefon. Syftet med denna studie var att genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med chefer och medarbetare på kundcenter samt motsvarande chefer och medarbetare på lokalkontor inom Sveriges största bank, Nordea, undersöka upplevelsen av förändringen med bakgrund av den pågående omfördelningen av kunder och hur detta har påverkat de respektive enheterna. Analysen visar att maktbalansen är på väg att ändras till kundcenters fördel, dit alltmer resurser och ansvar fördelas, medan lokalkontorens roll inom organisationen är på väg att förändras. Statusen har förbättrats för kundcenter de senaste åren men är alltjämt fortfarande relativt låg i förhållande till lokalkontoren. Motstånd till denna förändring uppfattades i intervjuerna och nya strategier för att komma åt resursen, kunderna, från lokalkontoren var tydliga.

    Abstract [en]

    In the European society of today temporary residence permits (TRP) are largely directed at labor market issues, not protection issues. This responsibility-based model implies that the importance of getting a job is the norm regarding what life choices an immigrant "should” do to renew their TRP:s.

    In the light of the UN's sustainability goals of reduced inequality, discourses about integration needs to be discussed and problematized to clarify what their implications are for individuals as for society. The aim of the following study is to describe and analyse the field of tension created between the regulatory requirements and the individual's considered life choices as they are articulated by persons living with TRP:s.

    The study is based on interviews about life choices with six persons with TRP. The material is analysed with discourse analysis based on the concepts of temporality, liminality and agency and the analyse resulted in three discourses about, legal security (1), ontological security (2) and interrelational freedom (3). The three discourses can be seen as the field within which the individual make a specific choice.

    The results show that life with TRP affects choices about family, education and work, but also the approach towards life in general. In all their choices, the informants must prioritize between increasing the chances of obtaining a renewed residence permit or moving towards long time goals. Choices are made with the cost of giving up educational goals or ontological safety, but at times the informants put their own agency in the front seat even though they risk to be sent back to the danger they once fled. The oppressive, colonizing, feature of the responsibility-based discourse risks putting people in a liminal situation that backfires on society in terms of sustainability, and equality.

    Research has shown that attitudes to immigration can change due to various factors. In recent years, immigration has become an increasingly polarizing issue in Sweden, with many politicians and parties framing it as intertwined with other issues. Negative framing of immigrants has contributed to more negative attitudes towards immigration among the public. As a result, political trust has emerged as a new and important topic that had not previously been mainly considered in studies of attitudes towards immigration in Sweden. This thesis examines the driving forces behind changing attitudes to immigration in Sweden between 2002-2018. During this period, we witnessed significant events such as 2008 global financial and 2015 refugee crises. The study used data from the European Social Survey (2002-2018) to analyze the correlation between demographic, economy, safety, culture, societal cohesion, political trust, and changes in attitudes towards immigration to answer the research question: What are the driving forces for changing attitudes to immigration in Sweden? The findings suggested that political trust had the most significant effect. Additionally, societal cohesion and political trust were the most changing trends among all the perceptions explored in this research. The study contributes to understanding changing attitudes towards immigration in Sweden and the driving forces behind them to provide valuable insights to address the challenges of immigration. This research deepens our understanding of the multidimensional nature of immigration and provides another explanation to help tackle the challenges of immigration and integration policies.

    This thesis concerns the female gender identity generally known as the tomboy – a non-marginal gender identity. As a result of the non-marginality and complexity of this gender identity research on the subject is sparse. Moreover, previous research has not shown a limitation of tomboyism to homosexuality. This study aims to explore the specific socialization route in which such gender identity formation is acquired and to make clear, its main stages, determining factors and key agents as well as the social-psychological and emotional experiences of tomboys. An evaluation of the consequences of this particular type of socialization, in relation to these women’s work and family lives has also been made. The empirical material was collected through the qualitative method of deep interviews. An interdisciplinary theoretical framework including theories from sociology, gender studies and social psychology have been used in the analysis of the empirical material. The specific socialization route of the respondents was found to consist of five distinct stages. The different stages are characterized by: a separation from femininity, identification with and adapting masculine behaviors and attitudes, resisting gender norms and/or mainstream culture, being sanctioned and integration of masculinity and femininity. The primary key agents were found to be the parents and other role models that were either male or performed an unconventional femininity. The consequences of taking this particular socialization route was the formation of a female gender identity that cannot be categorized as traditionally feminine or masculine, according to the heterosexual matrix (Butler 1993) nor can it be understood as a cross-gender or queer gender identity. Moreover, the tomboy identity formation is found to cause ruptures in the heterosexual matrix as proposed by Renold and Ringrose (2008). It is concluded that further research on the heterosexual gender identity of the tomboy is needed in order to fully understand both the particularities of it and its impact on the heterosexual matrix.

    Standupkomik är en underhållningsform som går ut på att en komiker håller ett monologt samtal innehållandes skämt inför en publik. Framträdandet tillåter reaktion, deltagande och engagemang från en publik. Standupkomikern återger en bild av vår vardagsverklighet som får människor att skratta. Detta fenomen har på senare tid ökat i popularitet och har, enligt tidigare forskning, förmåga att påverka individer och strukturer, vilket gör det viktigt att närmare undersöka fenomenet. Syftet med denna studie är att kunna säga någonting om standup som fenomen utifrån komikers uppfattningar. För att besvara syftet har följande fyra frågeställningar preciserats: 

    Ger standup upphov till gemensamma känsloupplevelser hos individerna inom scenen? Hur konstruerar komikern sina skämt? När skrattar publiken? Finns ett beroendeförhållande mellan standupscenen och samhällets strukturer?

     

    Empirin samlades in genom kvalitativa djupintervjuer, fältintervjuer och observation. Vid djupintervjuerna undersöktes standupkomikernas upplevelser om att utföra standup. Observationen, med tillhörande fältintervjuer, möjliggjorde en förståelse bortom komikernas egna självuppfattningar för att återskapa deras tolkningar. En djupgående analys av empirin har gjorts med utgångspunkt i socialkonstruktivism (Berger & Luckmann, Collins, Hochschild, Jenkins och Mead).

     

    Resultatet visar att vi med fördel kan förstå standup som en interaktionsritual och att känslor har betydelse vid framträdandet. Efter en lyckad ritual uppstår långvariga känslotillstånd av gemenskap och solidaritet. Standupscenen kan förstås som en institutionell ordning där förutbestämda regler påverkar individers beteenden, roller och normer. Komikerna konstruerar sina skämt utifrån sin upplevda identitet. Publiken legitimerar komikern och skämten genom att skratta. Överträder skämtet samhälleliga strukturer är sannolikheten liten att publiken legitimerar skämtet. Vidare legitimerar skämten även samhällsordningen och den institutionella ordningen som standupscenen utgör.

    Systemic violence against women in the military has existed for decades, but they have mostly refrained from public resistance. However, in the context of the #Metoo‐movement in Sweden, 1768 women published a call for an end to violence and sexual harassment in the military. We analyze this call as a public resistance effort against the military and find that #Metoo is: 1) challenging the norms of the hyper‐masculine military organization, making resistance towards it visible, and 2) resisting the practices of sexual harassment and lack of responsibility in the military organization. The military organization is questioned when it comes to norms and practices, but there are variations in whether the social order of the military is truly challenged. Still, the call highlights the fragmentation of this “last bastion of masculinity”. More research is needed on the erosion of the militarized norms and practices and the effects of the call.

    The recent United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace, and Security highlights the importance of 18-29 years old people as positive leaders in peace and security. For a long time, research and media featured youth in conflicts either as victims, or perpetrators. Recently, some studies began promoting a better narrative based on positive-peace structural factors, e.g. development. Notwithstanding these valuable contributions, little research has empirically explored psychosocial divers of youth within conflicts. This paper studies the links between complex self-categorization processes and attitudes towards peace.

     

    Using a mixed-methods design of randomized surveys and semi-structured interviews, the research aimed to evaluate the hypothesis that youth with superordinate complex social identities (SCSI) will be more likely to have positive attitudes towards peace. The study does not find support for the hypothesis. Youth have a complex identity in which they simultaneously recognize their superordinate and in-group belonging; however, the prioritize in-group self-categorization. Young people have contact with other groups, but their empathy and trust levels are still low. Despite SCSI may not be the main driver of youth positive attitudes toward peace, rather complex identities.

    Syftet med denna studie har varit att utforska och undersöka erfarenheterna hos föräldrar som har, eller har haft, en partner som varit frihetsberövad. För att hitta nya infallsvinklar kring en relativt bortglömd grupp i samhället har grundad teori används som metod. Genom åtta semistrukturerade intervjuer, samt en fokusgruppsintervju, har studien identifierat de utmaningar som omger gruppen av vårdnadshavare och deras kamp för att skapa en normal tillvaro i en kaotisk situation. Dessa innefattar att hantera ekonomiska utmaningar, oron för stigmatisering och de förändrade relationer som en följd av frihetsberövningen i en tillvaro där de ständigt tvingas göra avvägningar i vad som kan sägas, och till vem. Resultatet av studien visar att deltagarna förlitar sig på stöd från sina sociala nätverk för att hantera den nya livssituationens många svårigheter, samtidigt som de stänger av det egna mående eftersom de inte ger sig själva tid att känna efter. Samtidigt som studiens deltagare tvingas förlita sig på sin omgivning, finns där en stark vilja till autonomi och självständighet.

    Sammanfattningsvis ger denna studie en inblick de utmaningar som föräldrar står inför när de lever med en frihetsberövad partner, och kan bidra till en ökad förståelse och medvetenhet kring denna marginaliserade och undanskymda samhällsgrupp.

    Jahoda (2012) criticizes discursive social psychology (DSP) on several differentgrounds; specifically, he argues that DSP has opaque methodological procedures,is of questionable scientific merit, involves over-interpretation of its data, andimplicitly claims its findings to be universal rather than contextually specific. Wechallenge these criticisms by arguing that observational studies of the kind typicalwithin DSP research have a perfectly valid place within a scientific social psychol-ogy, that the interpretations made by DSP researchers should be seen in thecontext of a temporally extended research process in which they are subject tocriticism and potential replication, and that Jahoda is himself guilty of over-interpretation by inferring claims of universality when such an inference is notwarranted by the data (i.e. the qualitative content of the sample of research papersconsidered by Jahoda).

    Hur går det i livet för unga människor som upplevt misslyckanden i skolan? I denna första rapport från FABASKO-projektet analyseras enkätmaterial från en stor grupp 25-åringar. Ungdomarna besvarade första gången enkäter när de var 18 år gamla och gick på gymnsiet.

    Syftet är att få en bild av hur dessa unga vuxna anpassat sig till sin vuxenroll och till samhällets krav på dem. Författarna försöker också ta reda på om vissa av dem kan antas vara mer utsatta än andra och se vad som karaktäriserar denna grupp.

    Facebook är ett populärt nätvert som många använder sig av i dagens läge. I och med att Facebook är en plats där man ständigt interagerar med andra människor är jag intresserad att ta reda på hur självkänslan påverkas av ett aktivt Facebookanvändande vilket även är syftet med hela uppsatsen. Mina frågeställningar är:

    Hur påverkas självkänslan av att använda Facebook?

    Vilka specifika funktioner bidrar till att påverka självkänslan?

    För att ta reda på detta har jag använt mig av kvalitativa intervjuer som jag har utfört på fyra aktiva användare. I min analys har jag kommit fram till att Facebook påverkar självkänslan både positivt och negativt. Jämförelsen med andra personers profiler har främst en negativ påverkan, men kan även fungera som motivation till att själv prestera bättre. Bekräftelse i form av "likes" och fina kommentarer visade sig endast ha en positiv påvkeran på självkänslan. De specifika funktioner som bidrar till att påverka självkänslan är statusuppdateringar, bilder, gilla-funktionen samt möjligheten att få positiva kommentarer av andra personer.

    Objective The present study investigates if symptoms of COVID-19 contagion in different social contexts (cohabitants, family, acquaintances, and others) are associated with university students' own self-reported symptoms of COVID-19 contagion, mental health, and study capacity. This was investigated by a cross-sectional survey administrated in Sweden during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, at the time when universities were locked down to limit viral spread and contagion. Results Mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19 in cohabitants and family members were associated with student's self-reported symptoms of contagion, while no associations could be seen in relation to mental health and study capacity. Symptoms of COVID-19 contagion in acquaintances and others were not associated with students' self-reported symptoms, nor with their mental health and study capacity. To conclude, during the initial lockdown of universities students' self-reported symptoms of contagion were mainly associated with cohabitants and family members, while symptoms of contagion in different social contexts were not associated with mental health and study capacity. Findings suggest that lockdown of universities may have contributed to limiting infection pathways, while still allowing students to focus on their studies despite significant contagion among others known to the student.

    The aim of this study is to understand experiences regarding parental separation from a child’s perspective and the significance for adult life. Based on a qualitative method, adult children of divorce and their perceived emotions as well as the influence of social identity are studied. This study is based on ten semi-structured interviews with eight women and two men. The results of the study indicate that the child may experience feelings of guilt and abandonment, but also relief. The child’s positive or negative experience of the separation is based on the degree of conflict as well as the parent ́s handling. All informants who state that the separation had an effect on their mental health also experienced a high degree of family conflicts and have a negative experience of the separation. The majority of the informants have experience of conflicts due to the separation.

    This study will present the results of a quantitative survey where the aim was to see if Tinder use affects individuals' self-esteem and if the effect is dependent on gender. The data collection was carried out with an online survey via Facebook in which 102 respondents participated (F = 55 and M = 47). The user's estimated time on Tinder was the main variable of Tinder use in this study and the researchers constructed their own questions to control for time frequency. To control for underlying factors in Tinder use, the researchers constructed their own questions to examine profile satisfaction, Tinder satisfaction, happiness after Tinder, right swipes, and matches. Self-esteem was measured by the Rosenberg self-esteem scale. Based on Festinger's theory of social comparison, three questions about social comparison on Tinder were constructed. The result showed that hypotheses 1 Tinder use has a negative effect on men's self-esteem and 2 Tinder use has a positive effect on women's self-esteem are not true, the study could not confirm that the main variable time frequency has an impact on men's and women's self-esteem. The study was able to determine that the profile satisfaction variable has a significant positive impact on men's and women's self-esteem and a gender difference was discovered where men are more strongly affected by profile satisfaction.

    Abstract [en]

    This doctoral thesis investigates three different topics: How friction evolves in atomically thin layered materials (2D materials); How social dynamics can be used to model grand scale common-pool resource games; Benchmarking of various image reconstruction algorithms in atomic force microscopy experiments. While these topics are diverse, they share being complex out-of-equilibrium systems. Furthermore, our approach to these topics will be the same: using simple models to obtain qualitative information about a system's dynamics. In the case of atomically thin layered materials, we will be expanding on the influential Prandtl-Tomlinson model and obtain an improved model constituting a substantial improvement in the theoretical description of friction in these systems. In the context of social dynamics, we will introduce a novel model representing a new approach to consensus rates on social networks in relation to society spanning coordination problems. For the image reconstruction project, our ambition is to investigate a new method for recreating free-energy surfaces based on AFM experiment, however, for this project only preliminary results are included.

    I been working with an eclectic approach to the choice of method and I have therefore been using different methods in which content coding on text and symbolic interpretation of images has been the most prominent. These codes were created based on my theoretical framework.    

    The result of my analysis is that gender is done on fashion and lifestyle blogs relative to the two categories, sex categorization as well as gender. This doing appears in different forms in which the body´s appearance, its decoration and individuals´ behavior and opinions are of central importance. Identity values and stigma are two phenomena that are manifest on this kind of blogs. These two phenomena occur in relation to both sex categorization and gender.

    Europeiska unionen lanserade under 2010 den Digitala agendan för Europa. Syftet med agendan är att förstärka ekonomin inom unionen genom att implementera en digital inre marknad. Arbetsförmedlingen, som är en viktig aktör på arbetsmarknaden i Sverige, påverkas av kraven från EU:s digitala agenda och genomgår sedan 2014 en djuplodande digitalisering av verksamheten. Det digitala uppdraget beskrivs i Arbetsförmedlingens offentliga dokument som en effektiviserings- och rationaliseringsprocess som grundar sig i digitaliseringen. Genom digitaliseringen har Arbetsförmedlingen skapat nya definitioner av kunden vilket ställer nya krav på att kunderna anpassar sig och blir digitaliserade. Här uppstår en konflikt mellan myndighetens digitaliseringsuppdrag och de arbetssökandes kompetenser. Därför är det viktigt att studera hur den arbetssökande framställs i samband med digitaliseringen på Arbetsförmedlingen. För att förstå framställningen används Michel Foucaults diskursteori och metod för analys. Uppsatsens resultat visar att definitionen om den digitala arbetslösa kunden tillkommit i myndighetens verksamhetsbeskrivningar mellan 2014 och 2019. Av uppsatsens analys framgår att kanalstrategin och förnyelseresan är viktiga delelement i verksamhetens ideologiska grund för implementeringen av digitaliseringen. Uppdraget genom Portföljestyrningen däremot, används för att förstärka implementeringen av de strategiska målen utifrån myndighetens maktposition. Begreppet den digitala arbetslösa kunden skapas ensidigt från Arbetsförmedlingen i verksamhetsplanernas utformning. Det som normaliseras i digitaliseringsdiskursen är kravet på effektivitet som, hand i hand med kundens förväntade digitalisering, visar hur verksamheten ska bedrivas.

    In the restaurant industry, there are requirements and standards about how a waitress should treat the restaurant's guests. These demands are part of the work role and affect the waitress's emotions and self-esteem, which creates an emotional burden for the waitresses. To alleviate the emotional strain, they use coping strategies to keep their self-esteem in balance and continue working in the profession. The purpose of the study is based on a social psychological perspective to gain a deeper understanding of how social interaction within the restaurant industry affects the waitress's self-esteem and emotions. The study is based on a qualitative method with 10 semi-structured interviews that were conducted at the respondents' workplaces. The theories in the study focused on self-esteem, emotional labor and coping strategies. The study used a thematic analysis to identify patterns and themes in the collected material. The results showed that working as a waitress creates an emotional burden, and affects the waitress's self-esteem. Therefore, waitresses used various coping strategies to manage the emotional burden in the workplace. Some important factors that influence self-esteem and emotions are customer service, feedback from guests and the manager, and working according to professional requirements. The respondents dealt with the negative emotions with the help of social support and they recovered in their free time to find a balance between work life and free time.
