    Abstract [en]

    Background: The financial market and its services have become more complex during the years. The supply of diverse products, like different types of funds and stocks has steadily increased. Today there are plenty of different trade platforms for stocks and funds. Simultaneously as the supply of complex products is increasing, more responsibility is being placed on the individual, which can be seen in the Swedish premium pension. This assumes that the consumer is well informed and makes the right decisions. The consumer can choose between obtaining help from counseling, or handling the investments alone.

    Aim: The aim of this thesis is to examine consumers’ motives behind choices of financial services and investment decisions, and to analyze the relation between choice of financial services and goals for saving.

    Implementation: Seventeen interviews have been conducted with employees at the Linköping University. The selected group consists of teachers with different positions.

    Result: The writers conclude that the consumers fall short, regarding financial services. They lack knowledge and enough information. The result is that consumers cannot utilize these services in an optimal way. The choices of financial services are not always related to the goals of saving.

    Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med rapporten är att utvärdera en interaktiv brand- och räddningsinstruktion som framförallt används inom försvarsmakten. Utvärderingen gick ut på att ta reda på hur användarna använder instruktionen och hur de vill att den ska utvecklas i framtiden för att möta deras behov. Utvärderingen genomfördes genom intervjuer med sju användare från olika delar av landet samt en heuristisk utvärdering utifrån Nielsens tio användbarhetsprinciper och med hänsyn till Sweller och Chandlers ”cognitive load theory”. Resultatet visade att instruktionen framförallt används som uppslagsbok och att användarna vill se en utveckling av instruktionen där den blir större och omfattar mer information, till exempel om haverier och utländska luftfartyg och att text och illustrationer i instruktionen är uppdaterad och korrekt. Utifrån analysen togs flertalet utvecklingsförslag fram och presenteras i slutet av rapporten.

    The Role of Causal Attribution and Self-Focused Attention for Shyness2006Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how and to what degree shy individuals differ from non-shy individuals regarding their attributional patterns. The results from 3 quantitative and 1 qualitative study paint a somewhat different picture of how shyness is associated with social cognition compared to previous research in the field. The following 4 main conclusions were drawn. (1) Being shy does not necessarily imply distorted social cognitions since shy people exhibited less of a self–other difference compared to non-shy people. (2) Being self-focused and shy means that emotional reactions are likely to be perceived as caused by stable internal causes rather than less stable internal and external causes. If shy people are self-focused to a lesser extent there is still a tendency for these individuals to exhibit this attributional pattern. (3) Shyness is more important than behavioral inhibition in determining ascriptions of causes to emotional reactions, whereas shyness and behavioral inhibition interact in determining people’s perceptions of the degree to which freely chosen causes are caused by internal and external factors, respectively. One conclusion of these findings is that future research needs to focus on how people in everyday life really explain their own and other people’s behaviors and reactions. (4) Very shy people can experience identity confusion as well as a conflicting wish to stay shy and to overcome shyness at the same time. Even though these results imply quite severe consequences of being shy, in general shyness seems to be viewed in quite a positive light.

    Abstract [en]

    The hypothesis that shyness would be associated with attribution of emotional reactions to stable internal causes rather than to less stable internal and external causes was tested in Study 1 (N = 60). In Study 2 (N= 112) the hypothesis that the explanatory power of shyness would decrease once the effect of self-focused attention on attribution to stable internal causes had been controlled for was tested. The results confirmed both hypotheses. Shyness correlated positively with attribution to stable internal causes, but non-significant with attribution to less stable internal and external causes. Shyness explained a lesser portion of the variance in attribution to both of the internal causes when controlling for self-focus. Even though the findings indicate that self-focus is central to the social cognitive processes of shy individuals, they also suggest that self-focus cannot fully explain attribution to internal causes in general and shy individuals' attributional pattern in particular.

    A questionnaire, including questions about perceived attractiveness, feelings of unsafety and different types of perceived risks connected to five different transport modes (car, city bus, tram, regional bus, and commuter train) was filled out by 58 persons at the city library in Gothenburg. The results showed that perceived risk and worry of being bothered, threatened or attacked might have a larger impact on perceived attractiveness than perceived risk and worry of being seriously injured in traffic accidents. Similar results were obtained in similar studies conducted in Norrköping and in Stockholm. Of the respondents in Gothenburg, 45 % stated that they avoid travelling with particularly tram during evenings and weekends, to the areas Angered or Bergsjön. The results obtained from the studies conducted in Gothenburg and in Stockholm also suggest that perceived risk and worry of being bothered, threatened or attacked affect feelings of unsafety. The results obtained from all three studies showed that certain circumstances, such as the bus stop etc being situated next to a park, contribute to a high degree to feelings of unsafety while walking to, or waiting at, a bus stop etc. When travelling with a public transport mode feelings of unsafety arise for example when the driver/personnel do not supervise their vehicle. In all three studies, women stated to a higher extent than men that different circumstances contribute to feelings of unsafety.

    A questionnaire, including questions pertaining to perceived attractiveness, feelings of unsafety and different types of risks connected to different transport modes (car, city bus, tram, regional bus, commuter train and subway), was filled out by 59 respondents. The results showed that perceived attractiveness might be affected by perceived risks and worry of being bothered, threatened or attacked by fellow passengers to a higher extent than perceived risks and worry of being involved in traffic accidents. Different circumstances, for instance bus stop etc being remotely situated, were considered to contribute to feelings of unsafety when walking to and waiting at the bus stop etc. When travelling with different public transport modes the participants stated that they feel unsafe if for example the drivers/personnel do not supervise their vehicle. Women stated to a higher extent than men that different cirsumstances contribute to feelings of unsafety when walking to and waiting at the bus stop etc, as well as when travelling with different public transport modes. A majority of the respondents stated that they avoid travelling with the red subwayline during nighttime, especially during weekends. The respondents stated that they had a more positive attitude towards tram than towards regional bus and commuter train, which was not the case in a similar study conducted in Norrköping. This result might be explained by a successful introduction of a new tramwayline (Tvärbanan) in Stockholm.

    Perceived risk, feelings of safety and worry associated with different travel modes.2000Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The main objective was to study how perceived accident risk and risk of violence are related to feelings of safety and worry associated with different transport modes (car, taxi, city bus, regional bus, train, ferry and aeroplane). Another aim was to study how individual differences (such as age, sex, the extent to which individuals use different travel modes, personal experience of accidents and violence situations and how individuals perceive themselves) might affect these relationships. A questionnaire was constructed for these purposes and was filled out by 100 respondents. The results showed that there were differences between the respondents' perceptions of accident risk, risk of violence and feelings of safety, as well as differences between the different transport modes. Car received higher ratings of accident risk than the remaining transport modes, whereas city bus and ferry received the highest ratings of risk of violence. The participants seemed to have a fairly good idea of the internal rank order of the transport modes with respect to accident risk, whereas they seemed less aware of the actual size of the differences between the different transport modes. The ratings of feelings of safety and worry were found to be quite similar. Finally, individual differences, such as age and sex, seemed to have some effects on the perceptions of risk and feelings of safety.

Another aim was to study to what extent different circumstances (for instance lighting) contribute to feelings of insecurity while travelling with different public transport modes. Finally, an objetive was to study possible effects of individual differences (such as demographic variables). A questionnaire was constructed for these purposes and was filled out by 58 respondents. The results showed that people perceive feelings of safety and attractiveness to be different depending on the transport mode. People perceive private cars to be more attractive than public transport modes. Perceived attractiveness might be affected by perceived risks and worry of being bothered, threatened and violated by fellow passengers to a higher extent than perceived risks and worry of being involved in traffic accidents while travelling. Individual differences might have an affect on perceived attractiveness, feelings of safety and perceptions of risks.

    Nyantagna lärarstudenters motiv, motivation, självtillit och akademiska engagemang2014Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Det första studieåret vid universitet eller högskola har visat sig utgöra en kritisk period för nya studenter och en stor del av alla avhopp sker under den här perioden. Forskning har visat att hög studiemotivation, självtillit och högt akademiskt engagemang hos studenter predicerar goda studieresultat och motverkar avhopp.

    I den här rapporten redogör vi för en studie av nyantagna lä-rarstudenters motiv för studieval, akademiska självtillit, studiemo-tivation och akademiska engagemang. I rapporten beskrivs även relationerna mellan dessa variabler och deras koppling till kön och lärarkategori. Studieavhopp analyseras i relation till kön, lärarkategori och studenternas initiala motiv för att läsa till lärare. En central teoribildning som forskningsprojektet utgår ifrån är teorin om själv-beslutsamhet (”self-determination theory”). Urvalet utgörs av stu-denter vid Linköpings universitet som avser att studera till grundskol- och gymnasielärare. Data har samlats in med enkäter och bearbetats med deskriptiv och analytisk statistisk.

    Av resultaten framgår att studenterna rapporterar att de i första hand har valt att läsa till lärare till följd av altruistiska och inre skäl, och att de i högre grad motiveras av autonom motivation än kontrollerad motivation i sina studier. De blivande lärarna i grundskolans senare år och gymnasiet (senarelärare) uppvisade en högre akademisk självtillit än de blivande lärarna i grundskolans tidigare år (tidigarelärare). För akademiskt engagemang var resul-tatet det omvända. Medelvärdena för självbeslutsamhet, akademisk självtillit och akademiskt engagemang i studien är dock inte högre än att det finns utrymme för att försöka höja dem för kommande kohorter av lärarstudenter. Andelen avhopp bland lärarstudenterna som ingår i studien ligger på drygt 40%. Andelen avhopp var större för senarelärarna än för tidigarelärarna. Resultaten visar också att altruistiska motiv bakom valet att studera till lärare sammanhänger med en lägre benägenhet till avhopp via akademiskt engagemang som medierande variabel. Avslutningsvis diskuteras pedagogiska implikationer av studien för lärarutbildningen.

    External relations in the product development process: a study of biotechnology firms in Sweden2004Doctoral thesis, monograph (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of the thesis is to investigate how and why firms use external relations and collaboration in the innovation process. These issues are discussed at both industry and firm levels. Both transaction cost economics and evolutionary/competence-based theories of the firm have been used and combined in order to understand and explain how and why external relations and collaboration are related to product development processes. These issues are rooted in the broader question concerning what determines the boundaries of firms. The empirical case material focuses on biotechnology-related human health care in Sweden.

    The empirical part of this study starts with a mapping of Swedish-based biotechnology firms involved in R&D. A database (BioSweden) was built in order to identify these firms' patterns of external relations. These patterns and fmdings are then related to a theoretical discussion about whether different types of firms develop different paths and patterns of external relations depending on differences in characteristics in technology and markets.

    These issues have also been investigated at the firm level, using a multiple-case study of 15 biotechnology firms. In this part the firms' origin and development over time are studied in order to shed more light onto how and why product development processes are related to in-house R&D and different types of external relations.

    The findings indicate that choices about governance modes related to product development are influenced by internal capabilities, resources, and competencies as well as technological and markets characteristics. It has also been shown that such choices are strongly influenced by firms' capabilities to interact with other organizations.

    Abstract [en]

    During the later part of the 1900´s and the early part of the 21st century an increasing number of Swedish buildings have sustained damages because of moisture. These damages can be traced back to the usage of the ”Exterior Insulation and finishing system” or ”EIFS” when constructing the outer facade. The main problem when using the EIFS method, is that the facade becomes very susceptible towards moisture. The issue with moisture was completely unknown to the Swedish construction industry, until 2007, when a report from the Swedish National Testing Institute (SP) was released which addressed the problems. The question now arises who, in the construction industry, is to be held liable for these damages.

    In accordance with the standardized contracts that are being used in the construction industry, a fault for which the contractor is liable, only occurs if the contractor has built the construction in such a way that is not in compliance with the contract established between the parties, e.g. the construction differs from blue prints etc. This means that the contractor only is liable for damages which have occurred due to the contractors failure to build the construction in accordance with the contract. Therefore it is of importance to investigate whether the building designer is liable or not. The standardized contracts used for building designers, only regulate the outer limits of the designer ´s liability. Therefore it becomes very important to analyse what the designer has to have done in order to fulfil his duties as a professional. If the designer has not acted in accordance with the duties that are incumbent upon him as a professional, it is reasonable to believe that he has been negligent when designing a facade with the EIFS-method.

    The thesis aims to present the duties that are incumbent upon the designer as a professional, and to determine whether the designer has fulfilled these duties when designing a building using the EIFSmethod. The thesis also aims to investigate whether the designer can be held liable towards other parties than the contracting party.

    Nationell kraft och lokal motkraft: En diskursanalys av konflikten kring SwePol Link2006Doctoral thesis, monograph (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Facility siting conflicts are increasing in our society. This is a study of a HVDC-link between Blekinge, Sweden and Slupsk, Poland called The SwePol Link. This link has transferred electricity between the two electricity systems since the year 2000 and the decision making process can be described as a struggle between conflicting interests. The aim of this study is to investigate where in the decision making process conflicting interests become visible, and how the actors involved have acted and argued in order to try to influence the process to benefit their respective causes. This aim is further developed through a discourse analysis of the variety of arguments, ideas and conceptions that in different situations of the process construct patterns and statements. The purpose of the discourse analysis is to identify and categorize patterns and statements that are expressed in three chosen practices; the concession practice, the court practice and the practice concerning the debate articles and editorials published in Blekinge Läns Tidning during the period 1996-2000. This practice is referred to as the mass media practice in the study. It is clear that the conflict deepens and that the system-builders and critical actors (including Blekinge Läns Tidning) started to distrust each other and their respective ways of acting during the process. Both supporters and critics used scientific and juridical enrolments in order to try to strengthen their positions in the conflict. Both scientifically and juridically formulated arguments were central patterns in the discourse. This was also the case with technically formulated arguments. These patterns of arguments were mainly expressed through academics, or experts, for or against the system and might thereby be looked upon as rather exclusive ways of arguing in the practices. One exception from this was, for example, when fishers argued against different scientific results on the basis of their experiences. This was, however, not a very successful way of criticizing scientific results. The study shows that there, for example, were conflicts around the meaning of a sustainable energy system, where a central system-builder pattern meets a peripheral systemcritical pattern and both sides held themselves as arguing for a sustainable energy system. Another result of the study is that the discourse varied depending on which practice it was expressed in. It became clear that holistic perspectives regarding a sustainable energy system or the landscape as such became peripheral in all of the “formal” practices, where the decisions regarding the system took place. These types of holistic patterns were mainly articulated in other practices like the mass media.

    Hård kritik mot friande beslut. Förra hösten fann vi att en medicinforskare fabricerat och förfalskat forskningsresultat. Det är den mest omfattande utredningen om forsknings­fusk under efterkrigstiden. För två veckor sedan drog Vetenskapsrådets nye chef tillbaka utredningen med en motivering som är helt tagen ur luften. Beslutet riskerar att ytterligare försämra förtroendet för forskningen i Sverige och för arbetet mot forskningsfusk, skriver den expertgrupp i Vetenskapsrådet som utredde miss­tankarna mot forskaren.

    Landstinget i Östergötland har problem med ständigt växande informationsmängder i patienters journaler. Anledningen till att detta är ett problem är att journalen blir svår att överblicka vilket gör det svårt för exempelvis läkare och sjuksköterskor att snabbt hitta relevant information och skaffa sig en uppfattning om patientens sjukdomshistoria vid exempelvis patientmottagning. Informationsöverflödet gör patientjournalen ostrukturerad och därmed svår att söka i. Det tar lång tid att hitta specifika data som eftersöks vilket kan leda till frustration och irritation i den redan tidsmässigt pressade arbetsdagen. Enligt tidigare studie är dubbeldokumentation i patientjournalen en stor bidragande faktor till detta problem. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka varför problemet uppstår, dvs. orsaken till dubbeldokumentation.

    Både observation och intervju har använts som datainsamlingsmetod. Data har sedan analyserats med tematisk analys.

    Studien resulterade i sex olika teman; The Efficiency-Thoroughness Trade-Off Principle (ETTO), Strategier, Uppdatering och Bekräftelse, Dubbeldokumentation, Störningar, Artefakter.

    Abstract [en]

    Background: Guided internet-delivered CBT for anxiety disorders has received increasing empirical support, but little is known regarding the role of the therapist. Aims: This study addressed therapist factors in guided internet-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy for anxiety disorders. Method: Data from three controlled trials with a total N of 119 were analyzed with attention to differences between eight therapists. Results: No significant mean level differences between therapists appeared in the dataset. However, one significant intraclass correlation between participants was found, suggesting that the outcome on the Beck Anxiety Inventory might have been influenced by the impact of the individual therapists. Conclusion: The therapist can possibly have some influence on the outcome of guided internet-delivered CBT for anxiety disorders, but studies with more statistical power are needed to establish whether therapist effects are present in this modality of psychological treatment. The present study was underpowered to detect minor therapist effects.

    I artikeln presenteras en rättsfallskartläggning över bolagsrättsliga domar vid Högsta domstolen eller hovrätterna i under 2013-2017. Studien visar bland annat att oaktat var du bor i Sverige är det lika stor sannolikhet för en aktiebolagsrättslig tvist, att talan i drygt hälften av målen riktas mot styrelseledamöter och att så mycket som en tredjedel av rättsfallen handlar om bolagsledningens personliga betalningsansvar. Studien ger också anledning att diskutera förekomsten och nyttan av empiriskt material inom rättsvetenskapen.

    Genom dispositiv lagstiftning erbjuds en flexibilitet för parter som finner att lagens utgångspunkt inte passar deras kontrakt. Forskning visar dock att dispositiviteten många gånger inte utnyttjas. I denna artikel diskuteras ekonomiska och psykologiska skäl till varför aktieägare avstår från att avtala bort bolagsrättsliga regler, trots att andra lösningar hade passat deras företag bättre. Det sagda får till följd att dispositiva aktiebolagsrättsliga lagregler likväl blir tvingande och sättet för lagstiftaren att bemöta detta är genom att överväga en annan regleringsteknik.

    Syftet med den här studien var att undersöka hur svensklärare arbetar med litteratur från övriga världen, hur de tolkar styrdokumenten, vad de anser att en text ”från övriga världen” kan vara, hur de väljer litteratur och vilka syften de ser med arbetet. Denna kvalitativa studie bygger på intervjuer av sex svensklärare verksamma i år 7-9 i grundskolan. Resultatet visar att lärarna ansåg att litteratur från övriga världen ska handla om ett annat land eller kultur och bör vara författad av någon som kommer från eller har stor erfarenhet av landet som beskrivs. Ett syfte med arbetet var att eleverna skulle få förståelse för sig själva och för andra människor, kulturer och länder genom att ta del av olika perspektiv, erfarenheter, känslor och tankar. Detta i sin tur kunde syfta till att motverka rasism, nazism, främlingsfientlighet och fördomar. Öva läsförståelse, lästeknik, allmänbildning, upplevelse och verklighetsflykt var andra syften som framkom. Litteraturen som användes på skolorna kom från olika länder även om en övervägande del var av västerländskt ursprung. Skolbiblioteket, kollegor, internet, nationella proven i svenska, nobelpristagare i litteratur och lärarens privata läsning var inspirationskällor när lärare skulle välja litteratur. Arbetssätt med litteratur var ofta tema, läsning - i grupper, enskilt eller högt- med efterföljande diskussion eller frågor att besvara.

    Naturen i The Secret History beskrivs både som en ytlig omgivning, som instinkter och lagar, som material eller fenomen. Det ges uttryck både för hur människor kan kontrollera och använda sig av den, och hur det är någonting som står över oss. Detta kan tyda på att naturen, istället för att vara någonting annat än människan, är ett intrikat system av påverkan som vi innefattas i. Samtidigt skiljs dock människan från naturen genom språket, där ord som mänskligt, kultiverat, artificiellt och rationellt får sin betydelse i motsättning till djuriskt, primitivt, naturligt och instinktivt. Djuriskhet skildras tillexempel både någonting som finns inom alla människor, och något som skiljs ifrån det mänskliga genom att benämnas som djuriskt. Romanen kan således sägas vara väldigt realistisk i dagens samhälle med ”complex and contradictory attitudes to ’nature’ and our place within it”. Samma sak gäller huvudpersonerna och händelserna i boken. Drivet bakom backanalen är att förlora det rationella och mänskliga jaget, att helt gå upp i det primitiva och djuriska, i naturen. De upphöjer det irrationella, samtidigt som de närmar sig detta rationellt. De försöker använda sig av kulturen för att komma närmare naturen, de försöker forcera fram det naturliga. De avslöjas som förljugna så till den grad att det kan anses vara deras sanna natur. Romanen efterliknar en tragedi men innehåller även element från den kritiska komedin. Allting blir komplext och motsägande, det går således inte att läsa ut något entydigt svar på hur man ser på eller använder sig av naturen, utan det är just komplexiteten som förmedlas. Även om berättelsen går ut på att bli en del av, eller inse att vi är, en del av naturen, så visar dessa ständiga motsättningar på hur vårt tänkande och vårt språk sätter upp hinder för att fullständigt kunna gå upp i naturen, eftersom allt tänkande och talande om naturen kräver att vi distanserat oss från den. Människorna är alltså i grunden en naturlig varelse, men som skiljer sig från den i ögonblicket de reflekterar över naturen, det blir alltså en slags metafysik för vilddjur. Även om Tartts roman således inte ger någon entydig bild av naturen eller ger anspråk på att vara sann mot någon slags objektiv natur kan den i högsta grad anses vara sann mot vår komplexa och motsägande syn på, diskurs om, och användning av naturen.

    Under åren 2010–2017 har de fyra universitetsanknutna kommunforsknings-instituten i landet drivit det Nationella kommunforskningsprogrammet. Forskningsprogrammets innehåll har vuxit fram i samtal mellan forskare och företrädare för de kommuner som deltagit i och finansierat forskningsprogrammet. Den första delen av forskningsprogrammet (Natkom 1) påbörjades 2010 och avslutades 2013 och handlade om hur kommuner anpassar sig till förändrade förutsättningar och handskas med besvärliga situationer.

    Föreliggande rapport utgör slutrapport för den andra delen av det Nationella kommunforskningsprogrammet (Natkom 2) som påbörjades 2014 och avslutades 2017. Mot bakgrund av krav som ställs på den kommunala organisationen att anpassa verksamheten till de resurser som finns var temat denna gång hur kommuner hanterar resursanpassning och verksamhetsutveckling. Natkom 2 fokuserade på att kartlägga och beskriva idéer för resursanpassning och verksamhetsutveckling och hur dessa överförs till praktiken. I rapporten sammanfattas och kommenteras de viktigaste resultaten från de 16 projekt som bedrivits inom ramen för forskningsprogrammets andra del.

    En iakttagelse från projekten är att centralisering av befogenheter till kommunledningen tycks vara vanligt i arbetet med resursanpassning och verksamhetsutveckling. Likaså kan konstateras att anpassningen och utvecklingen oftast är av mindre art och inkrementell. Trots att det finns tydliga tecken på "pyspunka" löper verksamheten på utan tydliga försök att göra större förändringar i syfte att anpassa verksamheten till framtida utmaningar.

    De sju år som det Nationella kommunforskningsprogrammet i sin helhet har löpt har varit tämligen turbulenta kommunala år. Totalt har det skrivits 47 rapporter och anordnats sju konferenser. Det handlar följaktligen om ett mycket omfattande och innehållsrikt empiriskt material som sammanställts, analyserats och legat till grund för slutsatser som återförts till medverkande kommuner, men även till icke medverkande kommuner, studenter och i forsk-ningslitteraturen.

    Abstract [en]

    As in most European countries the schools in Sweden historically have had close relations to the church. That was true to the medieval cathedral schools and to the first Swedish university, that of Uppsala founded in the 15th Century. That was also true when the 'gymnasia' were established in the 17th Century in the cities with cathedrals as a part of organising the Swedish 'empire' of that time preparing not only clergymen but also judges and officers for the new civil service. The lecturers of the gymnasia got their living as prebendaries of parishes around the cathedrals from that time into the 20th Century and formed the Protestant chapters of the dioceses of the Church of Sweden until the 1930s. The bishop was eforus (a kind of inspector) of the gymnasium until 1957.
