The paper challenges the term 'new' in the 'New Feminist Materialism'. It argues that the scholarly practices which have been named ’new materialism' are important, but that the term 'new' is problematic in so far as it indicates a linear story of progress. The paper discusses the naming practices within the field and suggests alternatives. In particular, the paper underlines that one of the things, which is easily cut off, when the phrase ’new’ is used, is the endeavour to look not only for discontinuities and disruptions which characterize different branches of feminist theorizing , but also to look for continuities and lessons to be learned from differently located theories. The debate about  representationalism and some current ’new materialist’ critiques of representationalism are used as example.

The article discusses intersections between feminism and environmentalism.

The chapter introduces central themes in current feminist theory, as well as an intertwinement of cultural critique and an affirmative search for alternatives.  The  key theoretical themes, focused in the chapter, are the following: 1) intersectionality and disidentification, 2) postconstructionism and new feminist materialism, and 3) queer- and transtheory as well as sex-positive feminism.

Denna antologi belyser kvinnors och mäns förutsättningar och behov inom en rad olika medicinska områden och tar upp både biologiska och sociala faktorer som påverkar hälsa och behandling. Den behandlar även den roll som kön spelar inom vårdens arbetsliv samt hur köns- och genusperspektiv kan integreras inom olika typer av medicin- och vårdutbildningar. Ett av bokens teman är våld, kränkningar och diskriminering, och inom ramen för detta behandlas några av de olika maktordningar som kommer till uttryck vid behandlingar inom hälso- och sjukvården. Antologin har en stor spännvidd när det gäller ämnen och författare. Förhoppningsvis ska den bredd som antologin uppvisar, leda fram till frågeställningar där läsaren utmanar sina förgivettaganden inom både genusvetenskap och mer traditionell medicin samt väcka nya frågor: Om könet snarare ses som en konstruktion än en fysisk realitet - kan då kvinnor lika gärna äta mediciner som är utprovade på män och opereras med metoder och verktyg anpassade till mäns fysiologi? Å andra sidan - hur objektiv är den naturvetenskapligt inriktade medicinska forskningen egentligen om man börjar granska den utifrån frågeställningar om perspektivval och genus? Antologin vänder sig till lärare på utbildningar inom medicin, hälsa och vård. Andra målgrupper är studenter på sådana utbildningar, vårdpersonal och en intresserad allmänhet.

The chapter is a case study based analysis of the current climate for public debates on feminism, gender and sexuality in Sweden and in Denmark. It compares three cases of smear-campaigns (two Swedish cases, focused on professors Tiina Rosenberg and Eva Lundgren, and one Danish case, focused on writer and film maker Jørgen Leth) from 2005, which all involved heated public debates on gender, sex and sexuality. It is discussed how the three cases highlight the status of feminism in the two countries.

The chapter discusses key issues in the feminist historical materialist theory of love power by Anna G. Jónasdóttir. Jónasdóttir's theoretical approach is compared with the contributions to feminist historical materialism by Nina Lykke and Mette Bryld, in particular their theory of gendered character masks. The monologist mode of speaking of Marxist theorizing is, moreover, discussed against the background of a notion of feminist dialogism.

This keynote paper presents the concept of disidentification and its different meanings. Disidentification as a political strategy is discussed against the background of analyses of the disidentificatory writing strategies of postcolonial feminist theorist Chandra Mohanty as well as transgender scholar Sandy Stone.

The chapter presents a sequence of writing exercises as a guide and inspiration for readers when writing introductions and synopses for longer as well as shorter academic texts. This key note address explores  the notion of diffraction and diffractive readings as a potentially useful methodology within the framework of Feminist Studies understood as a postdicisplinary discipline, i.e. as field of research  which  can pass as a discipline, but which as the same time promotes a radical deconstruction of disciplinary boundaries.  As part of the argument, the paper discusses postdisciplinarity as a feminist figuration, i.e. as a critique of  current divisions and cuts between human, social and natural sciences,  but also as a stance which includes affirmative  visions about an otherwise organized futurity. The paper highlightsdiffraction as a useful thinking technology within the postdisciplinary discipline of Feminist Studies, using examples  from feminist debates on  intersectional sex/gender, power and difference.

The chapter suggests a genealogical approach to feminist debates on intersecting enactments of power and resistance. A starting point is the ongoing “intersectionality wars”, which, particularly in a US context, have been framed among others as critiques of European feminism claimed to “whiten” and neoliberalise intersectionality through monocategorical (liberal) understandings of oppression and power, and through defensive positionings which bring in class, when confronted with critiques for lack of attention to race. Instead of staying within the stalemates of these debates, a genealogical approach is offered that looks into the archives of socialist feminisms, post- and decolonial feminisms, queer feminisms and posthuman feminisms, and their putting gender/class, gender/race, gender/sexuality and gendered human/non-human relationships, respectively, as key to analyses of intra-acting power dynamics and resistances. Following a Foucauldian conceptualisation of genealogy, historical links between different critical feminist theorisings of multiple oppressions, based on gender, race, class, sexuality and human/non-human relations, should be investigated retrospectively rather than traced along linear chronologies. Against this background, the chapter aims at suggesting ways of rethinking current struggles over intersectionality in terms of exploring how to reconfigure them through genealogical groundings, which not only investigates intersecting identities in a grid-like fashion, but asks about their intertwined genealogies in entangled systems of power: capitalism, post/colonialism, heteronormativity, Western modernity, and the Anthropocene, i.e., power systems which the mentioned archives have critically pinpointed as the ones to be resisted and changed. The methodology of genealogical grounding is explored with inspiration from feminist research, which cross-cuts borders between archives.

Huvuddelen av texten är en självbiografisk och poetisk beskrivning av min älskades död och mina queera möten med den mängd av normer – kristna normer, heteronormer och så vidare – som omger döden. Den introduceras av ett kontextualiserande förord med teoretiska reflektioner kring queer änkedom och sörjande. Texten är ett utdrag ur en längre självetnografisk och självfenomenografisk studie av queert patientskap, cancerdöd och änkedom. Att studien är självfenomenografisk innebär att min självetnografi inspireras av fenomenologisk metod och inriktas på frågor om förkroppsligande och affektivitet. Genom mitt betonande av queer änkedom och sörjande tar jag avstånd från den nyliberala, hälsonormativa och individualistiska kultur som fetischerar personlig lycka och kräver att vi bortser från sårbarhet, olycka och förlust. I linje med detta kopplar jag mina reflektioner och mitt poetiska, självbiografiska skrivande till queera undersökningar av negativa, dystra, sorgsna och mörka känslor och affektiviteter och följer queerforskaren Ann Cvetkovichs (2012) tes att detta ”att vila i sorgsenheten utan att kräva att den förvandlas eller uppfattas annorlunda” kan öppna fruktbara möjligheter personligt, politiskt och teoretiskt. Jag ser också mina reflektioner och poetiska skrivande som queerfemme-nistiska, i enlighet med queerforskaren Ulrika Dahls (2014) tankar om ”femme” som en feministisk figuration. The essay contemplates retirement as a portal of possibilities which may open time for diving into both haunting and joyful questions that the being tied-up with admin-work formerly has prevented the pursuit of. Questions which the retired academic could engage in are piled up, eg. the haunting ones concerning classic Humanities’ celebration of Universal (White) Man and human exceptionalism. Questions about portals leading from the haunted space of the Humanities to an elsehwhere, and what to take with us through these portals, are also interpellated. Critique and aesthetics are discussed as maybe worthwhile to carry to the other side.

The article defines the notion of post-constructionism and argues for its relevance in Feminist Studies.

The chapter discusses how, on the one hand, feminist theorizing leads towards radical multi-, inter-, trans- and postdisciplinarity, while, on the other hand, the field is so well-developed and established by now that it can pass and claim academic authority as a discipline. Against this background, the author discusses how different feminist epistemological positions may lead to different dilemmas and approaches to the question of disciplining. Drawing on the epistem-ontological framework of feminist scholar Karen Barad and locating herself in a postconstructionist position, she explores problems and potentials of a definition of the area as a postdisciplinary discipline or post-discipline.

The Making of European Women&rsquo;s Studies, Volume VI. This is the sixthvolume of the

joint annual publication of the ATHENA network on the making of European Women's Studies. Like the two previous

issues, it is to be taken as a work in progress report on the major activities of this Europena thematic Network, namely

curiiculum development and related issues in gender education and research. Under the sign of conitnuity with

innovation , expansion with growth, this issue puersues three well-establisehd areas of co-operation: firstly the dossier on

the uses and abuses of the sex/gender disctinction. More case studies fro European languages are offered from the

Finnish concept of 'sukupuli' (gender), Hungarian and Bulgarian. The second concerns the report of on-going activities of

the different ATHENA panels. Reports on the job-maker perspectives of Women's Studies grraduates are presented

(ATHENA panel 1a); on the uses of ICTs in Teaching and Learning Women's Studies (ATHENA panels 2a and 2b); on

new pilot courses on the development of Open and Distance Learning through the use of ICTs in Women's Studies; on

the pedagogical dimensio of Women and Gender Studies (ATHENA panel 1b) and onthe European textbook on

Women's Studies (ATHENA panel 1c). The third area of continuity relates to the historical dossier on the making of

European Women's Studies: this issue is devoted to the United Kingdom and it covers the full range of existing reports et

European level.

The article discusses the relationship between the fields of transgender studies and gender studies. Following Judith Butler's critique of 'proper objects, the author warns against the construction of a binary between the study of transgender and the study of gender. She argues that the two fields should be seen as intra-acting areas of inquiry which share an interest in trans-epistemologies.

Through a personalized story, anchored in historical reflections on the formative years of feminist research in the Nordic context in the early 1970s, the article engages in transversal conversations. The focus is dissonances and resonances between intersectional feminisms and socialist feminisms, and their critiques of monocategorical (neo)liberal feminisms. The method is transversal dialoguing, implying that participants in politically conflicted conversations, shift between "rooting" (situating their own stakes along the lines of feminist epistemologies of situated knowledges) and "shifting" (seriously trying to imagine what it takes to inhabit the situated perspective of interlocutors). A starting point for the articles transversal conversations is recent critiques of white feminist intersectionality research in Nordic and broader European contexts, claimed to neoliberalize and whitewash intersectionality. Shifting to the perspective of the critics, the author takes responsibility for her stakes in epistemologies of white ignorance. A historical reflection on her becoming a socialist feminist in the context of New Left students and feminist movements in Denmark in the aftermath of the students revolts of 1968 is used as prism to a discussion of socialist feminisms in the Nordic context in the 1970s, and their paradoxes of being attentive to class, while entangled in classic marxisms eurocentrism and epistemologies of white ignorance. To dig further into the question of genealogies of leftwing epistemologies of ignorance, characterizing Nordic socialist feminism in the 1970s (and haunting European socialism more generally), the article critically rereads a piece of the authors research from the 1970s-an analysis of the work of socialist feminist, Alexandra Kollontaj, and her role in the Russian revolution. Rooting, the author suggests that the epistemologies of white ignorance in Nordic feminist research rather than emerging from monocategoricality and (neo) neoliberalism, as the critics suggest, should be sought after through a critical scrutiny of leftwing versions of eurocentrism.

Vibrant Death links philosophy and poetry-based, corpo-affectively grounded knowledge seeking. It offers a radically new materialist theory of death, critically moving the philosophical argument beyond Christian and secular-mechanistic understandings. The book’s ethico-political figuration of vibrant death is shaped through a pluriversal conversation between Deleuzean philosophy, neo-vitalist materialism and the spiritual materialism of decolonial, queerfeminist poet and scholar Gloria Anzaldua. The book’s posthuman deexceptionalizing of human death unfurls together with a collection of poetry, and autobiographical stories. They are analysed through the lens of a posthuman, queerfeminist revision of the method of autophenomenography (phenomenological analysis of autobiographical material). The book explores the speaking position of a mourning, queerfeminine ”I”, who contemplates the relationship with her dead beloved lesbian life partner. She reflects on her enactment of processes of co-becoming with the phenomenal and material traces of the deceased body, and the new assemblages with which it has merged through death’s material metamorphoses: becoming-ashes through cremation, and becoming-mixed-with-algae-sand when the ashes were scattered across a seabed made of fiftyfive million-year-old, fossilized algae. It is argued that the mourning “I”’s intimate bodily empathizing (theorized as symphysizing) with her deceased, queermasculine beloved life partner facilitates the processes of vitalist-material and spiritual-material co-becoming, and  the rethinking of death from a new and different perspective than that of the sovereign, philosophical subject.

With a point of departure in an analysis of three different parts of a necklace which I had made after the cancerdeath of my life partner, and a poem which I wrote about the key components of the necklace, I shall explore and pose questions regarding what   material remains of  human bodies  can do.  My inspiration is Spinoza and Deleuze asking the question: what bodies can do rather than asking what they are. I will push the question into the framework of queer death studies, asking what dead bodies, in casu, human dead bodies and material remains from them, can do?  I will explore three modes of doing: material remains of human dead bodies acting  1) as palpable symbol of the past, 2) as material  embodiment of the present,   and 3) as  embodied sign which may or may not be working across  imaginary  boundaries and temporalities.   This explorative work-in-progress paper is part of my project on a feminist materialist reontologizing of death, andgrounded in its  beliefs and assumptions that poetic and theoretical/philosophical  explorations which do not prioritize one over the other, are very important in terms of making new modes of relating to death unfold.
